So remember my last post like two days ago being super weird and vague about Alec’s international job offer? Well.. cats out of the bag, he’s going to play in Taiwan!
We are so incredibly excited about this opportunity. unfortunately, it was a really quick turn around. He got home at like 2am on Tuesday night and left again at 5:45am this morning (Friday). While he was home, we unpacked, repacked, played with the puppy, say friends and family, and spent time together (you can fit a lot into two days).
So, as I write this, he is currently on his 1st of 3 flights to Taiwan. If you’re not sure where it is, look on a map, its wild. He is traveling for a good 24 hours and on of those flights is 16 hours! I didn’t even know that was possible.
While it was so difficult to say bye to Alec, we are pumped to see what he does over there. Taiwan basically has 4 major league style teams over there and people love baseball just as they do here. As an American over there, they will treat him very well because they do not see many American baseball players over there. He is also 6″3′ so he is going to stand out quite a bit. Him and I went over Taiwanese etiquette before he went over there because that is so important when traveling to a new country. Especially if you are going to be a public figure over there. As much as we read over everything and educated ourselves in the two days we had to prepare, nothing can truly prepare you for the experience of going to a new very foreign country where there will be a language barrier. And not even just a language barrier, but like, you can even try to make out what they are saying or writing (like you can with Spanish for example.)
I feel really confident that Alec will do so well overseas. I am so proud that he has reached the highest level in the states, in the Dominican Republic, and now in Taiwan. I mean.. who gets to say that?! I am also so excited because the team has offered to fly me out at some point while he is out there to visit. I LOVE traveling and I have never been to Asia so this will be the experience of a lifetime.
All-in-all, we cant wait to see how this effects his career and what is it like over there. He was a bit nervous leaving and there will definitely be some culture shock, luckily, the excitement weighs out the nervousness!
