So this weekend we (our puppy and I) are making the 10 hour road trip to High Point, North Carolina to go visit Alec. I call it a “Rodi” trip because thats my dog’s name and naming the post that made me feel really clever. Since we are leaving tomorrow, I feel like there no better time to give some of my best road trip tips and now, road trip tips with a dog.
Okay so heres the deal:
Alec played for a little bit at the beginning of this season and was like eh, I think I should take the season off and just focus on my health and fitness to be good to go for next season. So we decided to get a dog.
A week after we got this 9 week old puppy he got a call with a job offer and he had to leave.
With that being said, we all know the puppy phase is the best ever and I feel so bad that Alec is missing it. Ive never been one for long-ish road trips, however, now I have to be so he can see Rodi.
So when we went a few weeks ago Rodi was SO good in the car! She basically slept the whole time. I did make sure to have some items available for when whenever she needed them.
What to bring for a dog on a road trip:
- Seatbelt- I did not make her wear it the whole time, but it is nice to have for a little bit so she knows to stay in her seat.
- Water and food- Just in case we get stuck in the car for longer than expected, I always have an extra bag of food and water up from with me.
- Treats- Duh
- Toys- Duh
- A blanket- The blanket is good for her to lay on because the seat can get uncomfortable when there is limited space.
Luckily she is not too big yet so she can still sit up in front with me but wow, I got lucky with my shotgun rider!
Okay so here are some tips for humans on road trips:
- Bring snacks- I try to bring healthier snack that can fill me up a bit faster. I hate feeling too full in the car- especially during a long trip.
- Wear comfortable clothing- There is not worse feeling than being uncomfortable in what you are wearing. Workout clothes are always a safe bet.
- Wear sunscreen- As weird as this one sounds, sun comes through the windows and can definitely give you a little sunburn.
- Podcasts- I can’t stress this enough! I LOVE podcasts and they have a topic for everyone. It makes time go by pretty quickly.
Those are just some simple tips for car rides! We are so excited to see Alec this weekend and watch some baseball!
