Before knowing Alec, I associated baseball games with beer, peanuts, and hotdogs (the best trio there ever was!). But now that when I travel with him I basically go to a baseball game every single night, I figured out beer, peanuts, and hotdogs Are definitely not something you can eat every night. I mean you can, but.. don’t. I also learned that you’re in all of these new cities of course wanting to try all of their new foods and fun bars and whatever. When you’re on the road, it’s really difficult to stay healthy. But when you do it for about half the year, you have no option. Of course have fun with it, but it’s not always a vacation.

I have always been into health and fitness ever since I can remember. I’ve been playing sports since I was young and while I did have a fast metabolism in high school that quickly changed at around 18 years old. I then started having to watch what I eat which I didn’t mind because I like feeling good about myself and my body! With Alec being an athlete, we both watch what we eat and work out a good amount too. It’s nice because we keep each other on track and accountable.

I want give a few tips for staying healthy while on the road. As I mentioned before, it’s important to have fun with traveling but also not get too far off track.

1. Extended stay hotels

We stay in hotels a lot. Sometimes we can’t commit to an apartment if we feel like he’s going to be moved to a different team soon, so we try to find extended stay hotels. The perk about an extended stay hotel is the fact that it usually has a kitchen inside of the room. This is good because it allows you to make your own meals which usually is healthier than going out to a restaurant. It will also save you a couple bucks from not going out as much! Extended stay hotels usually have gyms as well which can help you stay on track when you have some feee time.

2. Active activities

Find ways to be active while still being able to be a tourist. A lot of cities have walking tours or bike tours which is so fun because it allows you to soak in this new place while not feeling bad about sitting on a bus all afternoon. Many cities have places that are walking distance too, so before you call that Uber, see what’s around you that you can walk to!

3. Cook your food

I know I touched on this in number one, but especially if you’re in a place for an extended amount of time, it is so important to cook your own food. Cooking your own food is most of the time healthier than going out for food and it saves you money. Having meals prepared also helps you from not snacking as much and is so convenient for when you get home from a late night baseball game (in my case) and want dinner right away.

While I definitely still include beer, peanuts, and hotdogs into my monthly diet, I make sure to even it out with a good workout that morning! It’s all about balance my friends.

I am in no way a health and fitness expert, but these are just a couple of simple tips to keep you somewhat on track while you travel!
